I was in the need for some retail therapy this weekend, so I picked up this Dior highlighting powder I've been wanting for a few years now. I could never really justify spending so much on a product that's not "essential", but I finally caved today since I had an unused gift card from my birthday last month.
It's funny how sometimes all it takes is something sparkly and pretty to lift your mood.

Leather sleeved jackets are nothing new but I always find myself passing on the standard blazer with leather sleeves even though I like the look.

I'm glad I waited for the recent online sales because I found a new favorite jacket. I love the military style body mixed with the black leather sleeves. It's not a huge departure from the typical blazer but I like how it's just a bit more casual and worn in looking. I'm also a huge fan of olive mixed with black this winter.

A lot has happened since my last blog post.
I went on a week long cruise for the holidays and celebrated my first new years in nyc.
I don't know why I've lost motivation to keep this blog going, but I feel like I first need to get back into taking pictures in general before I seriously jump back into blogging.

Looking back at my style during 2011 I think I've found what I'm comfortable wearing and have simplified my wardrobe to the point where I don't have a hard time deciding what to wear in the morning.
For 2012 I'd like to push myself to change up my silhouette and more specifically to get back into wearing dresses and skirts like I used to in the beginning of college.

For now I'm just going to post a few random outfit pics I have saved from the past month.

After the snow yesterday and sudden drop in temperature I feel seriously confused about what to wear. A few days ago I was comfortable wearing a sweater and one light jacket and today I was still chilly wearing four layers and a big fur collar.

It looks like the next thing on my shopping list is going to have to be a new winter coat.

I've definitely gotten into wearing the same easy pieces every day. Ninety percent of the time this means a sweater (like this navy one from T by Alexander Wang), skinny jeans, a belt, and my Acne pistol boots.

While I appreciate the ease of having a 'uniform' I still can't help feeling a little bored. Lately I've been wanting to incorporate some more mixed prints and layers into my wardrobe. Right now I'm wanting some florals/snakeskin and burgundy/navy. Easy changes.

I'm really happy with the fit of my new burgundy blazer from Zara. I've always been a fan of a subtle shoulder pad + slim cut sleeves. I think it's really flattering for my body type since I have annoyingly narrow shoulders.

Finished off this look with one of my favorite fall lip colors; Nars Matte lip pencil in "Damned".

We went to the MOMA PS1 for a relaxing Labor Day Monday. It was really humid so we didn't want to bother with driving out to the beach or anything like that. The museum was undergoing renovation so the exhibits were limited, but it was pay as you wish.

As you may have noticed I also purchased my first 'designer' handbag a few weeks ago. It's the Alexander Wang 'Donna' hobo and I got it for a nice discount online. I'm usually more of a semi-structured bag kind of girl but I liked the pocket details on this and how it can get pretty small and slouchy when there's not much in it. I also feel like it will wear in well and I won't be afraid to throw it around (which I already know is going to happen).

My favorite easy outfit to wear these days is a nude blouse and skinny pants.

I picked up these jeans the other day at Filene's Basement. I love the faded black wash and the subtle slit up the back leg. I also saw some black skinny flares that I'm still contemplating going back for at some point. It always feels like a small victory to me when I find jeans that fit and have a short enough inseam.

Back From My Vacation

Well unfortunately I haven't been on vacation this whole time but I was in Miami and Key West for a week at the end of last month so that explains these pictures. The weather was consistently beautiful and I was really in need of a break.

After I came home I went back to work and started packing like crazy so I could move from Philly to New York that coming weekend. I've already been here a few weeks and I love my new apartment. It doesn't hurt that it now takes me about 30min to get to work instead of 2hrs.

So basically my excuse for abandoning my blog is that I was busy and I only had internet installed today. Now I just need a photographer to help me take outfit photos and I'll be back on track!

About Leather Jackets

I have to admit that I've fallen out of love with the super fitted Rick Owens style leather jacket. What I want right now is a leather jacket that has a longer more relaxed fit in the body but is still tightly fitted in the sleeves. A detail like an interesting back or collar also wouldn't hurt.

I have two faux leather jackets from H&M and Express that I wear all the time, but I can't help thinking that a real leather jacket that isn't cropped to above my hips would become even more of a staple in my wardrobe. The awkward length has always bothered me visually and it also makes it harder to layer with different jackets or cardigans. While I understand it's a more flattering or slimming shape on most, I still don't get why 90% of leather jackets are cut this way.

Ideally I would like to find something close to the fit of men's leather jackets while still having it be flattering to my size. I would also like a simple motorcycle style without any excessive hardware or studs. This is going to be another thing on the long term wishlist for now, but feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions!

Wore this out to watch The Green Hornet (which I definitely recommend). Trying to stay warm with my black coat from H&M + a couple of layers.

All this ice is making it almost impossible for me to wear any heel over 3" during the week. I've already taken a tumble on my way to the bus stop in the morning.
Keeping that in mind, I'm looking for a low heeled boot to replace my payless ones which are sadly about to fall apart. I have a few ideas in mind but let me know if you have any suggestions.

I completely forgot to post anything last week. Have to blame it on the weather as usual..

Anyway, I bought these boots on sale a few weeks ago. I was in the mood for something simple. The tread on the bottom also makes them wearable for walking over mounds of snow and slush at crosswalks which is a plus.

p.s. As you can see I haven't made any hair changes yet. It's going to be a slower process than expected with me evening out my color gradually before making it all darker. In the meantime I'll just keep growing it out.

Last weekend I went the the Marine Corps Ball on Ellis Island with my boyfriend. I know I never mentioned it but I actually didn't know I was going until earlier that week (which made finding a dress a little stressful). It was definitely a memorable time and even though it meant a lot more traveling and a lot less sleep I'm glad I went.

Here are a few hotel outfit pictures I took when we came back to the hotel after the dinner to change. I didn't pull out my camera much that night but I'll update if I find some more pictures floating around somewhere.

About the dress; I ended up renting it from RentTheRunway since I had very little time to find a dress that was "black tie or ball gown". I'm pretty impressed with how simple the process is especially if you're in new york.

Jeans aren't a staple in my wardrobe like most people so it feels really refreshing for me to be wearing them right now.

Maxi Dress: Topshop, Olive Shirt: secondhand, Headchain: diy

I picked up this simple maxi dress in nyc's Topshop over the long weekend. I'm also wearing a long arrowhead necklace I made but you can't see it in this picture.

I don't have much to do this week besides putting together some jewelry to wear to the show and making sure everything is in order. It's been so hot recently I've had a hard time being outside for long periods of time. I'm searching for some super comfortable flat summer sandals; flip flops don't work for me. Any suggestions?

I love the colors in this editorial especially the deep warm reds and browns. These are the kinds of prints I could easily imagine pairing with my solid basics. Maybe I'll start with some of those bracelets or feather earrings..

It's amazing the difference a good camera makes.

These photos are from my second 'photo shoot' over the weekend. It was really hot and humid outside so having the fan blowing in my face for the indoor shots was a relief.
I found this oversized shirt recently in an old suitcase. I must have bought it during the winter because it was hidden under a thick wool jacket. I'm glad I didn't lose it because it's a really easy comfortable piece to wear with shorts.

It was a fun day and the good food afterward didn't hurt either. Thanks Ashley and Mike!

I haven't had much time this week because of pre-selection for my school fashion show and now that the week is over all I want to do is relax.

Tried taking pictures outside today but it started raining...

I love how comfortable this dress is and I can't wait until it's warm enough to wear it without a jacket (it makes me want to put some silver beads in my hair).
Also, I'm going to try and post more often this upcoming term. I only have class two days a week so it should be a lot easier.

My break hasn't been the most relaxing so far but at least the weather has been cooperating. Today I wore a taupe maxi dress and black motorcycle jacket to go pick up some fabric in new york. Next trip I'm going to have to remember to buy some chains!

Hair Straightening

Up until a few months ago I literally did nothing to my hair besides wash it and run a brush through it every so often. Then all the damage of coloring was really starting to show and I had a few inches cut off. After my hair was shorter I realized that it didn't look so good in it's natural wavy state so I started straightening it once or twice a week (not completely but just to tame a few layers).

Lucky for me then that the company Misikko decided to contact me and offered to send a professional flat iron to review. The company also carries other styling products and professional hair dryers. Up until now I've been using a cheap flat iron along with my CHI silk infusion. Since I love the product I have looked up CHI hair straighteners online but the price always turned me off buying one.

I received the hana elite 1" flat iron and the difference between it and my old flat iron is huge. It is far less bulky and heats up much faster. I can now basically cut my straightening time in half because it is so efficient. Which is awesome because I really don't like spending a lot of time on my hair :)

Since I had to wake up early today I decided to take advantage of the super bright lighting and take some pictures. I rediscovered these pants in the bottom of a suitcase recently and I love how thick they feel. I'm also still on my flat shoes kick because the snow and the adjustment is making my legs really sore.

These boots are definitely in the top three of most comfortable shoes I own. That plus lack of motivation to dress up means I've been wearing them almost every day since I bought them.
